Land speed records are a dream of many, an obsession of some, and a reality for a determined few. It is a quiet pursuit made by quiet men in garages on late nights and endless weekends. They do not chase big dollar corporate sponsors,TV rights or umbrella girls. They are just quiet men with better physics, geometry and welding skills than interview smiles. Just quiet men with a idea, a dream scrawled on a napkin of what will be fast... faster... maybe the fastest in the world. Our sport thrives on this quiet determination to build something that embodies the unique vision of each competitor.

RULE & LOG BOOKS-                                                      January 16, 2012

As most of you know, we post our rulebook online so that when someone gets the itch to start building, the answers to their questions are right at their fingertips.  In doing so, it must be made clear that while we do share "common" rules with the ECTA and SCTA, our book is not a substitute for theirs.  If you intend to race at other venues and do not purchase a current version of their rulebook, you risk not passing tech. and taking a long ride home.

Further, as of 2012, all competitors at LTA events will be required to purchase the new LTA Log Book so that our technical staff has an accurate chronology of your vehicle ownership, citiations,

and records.

GETTING VEHICLE NUMBERS                                        January 16, 2012

As you all know, Donna Timney does a great job of handling request for vehicle numbers.  Her contact information is here. If you would like a number that is not a 9000 series, you can also contact Chuck  Kalbach of the SCTA. They put out a list of expired numbers annually and you can find a 3-digit or a number of your liking (if available) by contacting Chuck at kalbach@snowline.net or 760-868-6059.

THE LTA GOES ELECTRIC-                                              January 16, 2012

The LTA is happy to announce that we have revised our electric vehicle classifications. We looked at various electric vehicle racing organizations and chose to adopt the classification system used by the National Electric Drag Racing Association, www.nedra.com due to their fifteen years of experience in electric drag racing and record keeping and their system has proved to be the most functional. We expect to see more electrics showing up at The Maine Event this coming season due to the inclusion of all NEDRA voltage classes

as opposed to the customary vehicle weight classes.

2012 RULES ARE OUT-                                                     January 15, 2012

The 2012 Rulebook is now completed and available on the Rules Page.  There have been extensive revisions made that now make the book truly the LTA's.
Please rest assured that the rules still align with the SCTA and ECTA.  What we have done is reorder, clarify, redefine and add new classes.

1) EV Class has been added that allows any electric car or bike.  We have made an

arrangement with NEDRA and will use their motor and voltage classes.  Vehicles will first

meet LTA safety and class requirements and then the motor will be classes by voltage.

Cars will retain Category and Class with fuel listed as E (C/EALT = 192V, Electric Altered)

Bikes will have an Electric Category (MPS/E-48 = Modified Partial Streamliner, Electric 48V)

2) Motorcycles have added Twins and Classic Categories.

3) Car Categories have been rearranged to:

    STREET - /TO, /SS, /RS

    PRODUCTION - /PRO, /PS, /GT

    ROADSTER - /STR, /R, /MR, RMR

    MODIFIED - /GC, /MS, /ALT, /CT

    CLASSIC - /CPRO, /CPS, /CALT, /CGC

    VINTAGE - SAME

    TRUCK - /PP, /PMP, /MP, /MMP, /DT

    SPECIAL CONST. - SAME

    VW - SAME

ELECTRIC - Same LTA classes with NEDRA motor classes.

2 NEW MOTORCYCLE CLASSES -                                               November 22, 2011

To create a more competative atmosphere and to allow for more participants, the LTA has adopted two new motorcycle classes.

Twins - All 1 and two cylinder, 4-stroke motorcycles with an angle of 0 - 180 degrees. Pushrod and OHC bikes included.

Classics - Air cooled 4-stroke motorcycles from 1956 - 1986 inclusively

RECORD HAVE BEEN UPDATED                                        Ausust 26,2011

Made a few small corrections in the records for a misspelled name and an incorrect class.

RULE CHANGE - Efffective Immediately                               August 18, 2011

Following on the heels of our safety wiring tune-up, the rule requiring safety wiring of oil filters is being reinstated.  This will be effective immediately.  We will allow the use of a radiator hose clamp around the filter that is then tied off for the fall event.

3.Y          OIL SYSTEM:

Engine oil system must have filters, either mounted directly to the engine or remotely mounted, safety wired to ensure retention.  The filter end may be fixed in place by the use of a filter with an integral stud or bung, or by  wrapping the filter with a hose clamp. The attachment point may then be chosen as practicable to ensure that the filter is secure. Metal wire or strap is required.

GUIDE TO SAFETY WIRING NOW AVAILABLE.                  Ausust 10,2011

Safety wiring is done for one reason, to make things safe. Our tech team feels that from the level of quality demonstrated at the 2011 Maine Event, we all could use a refresher coarse in proper safety wiring. Lack of information available makes the task even more frustrating to understand or accomplish.  So, our friendly Chief  Bike Tech Joe Daly has made available a guide used by the FAA.

Find it here...       OR directly download it here...

2011 RULEBOOK IS NOW ONLINE.                                    August 10, 2011

We have decided to make the 2011 rulebook available online for our racers. It will help our tech team answer questions from newbies and start the build process faster.  You will continue to receive a rulebook at event registration.

Find it here...

RUN LOGS AND RECORD HAVE BEEN UPDATED            Ausust 5,2011

Guess we were a bit hasty in posting the run logs and records.  A few people have contacted us due to a name change or an ommitted record.  For our first time, I guess we should have checked it over 5 times instead of just 3.  In compiling the records, I left a filter on which omitted a few.

All is corrected, we apologize, and the run logs and records are up.

One thing to always remeber is that with our USFRA timing system, we can not actually loose a record.  We can muck it up when we try to organize the data, but the raw  originals can always be found.

2011 RECORDS AND RUN LOGS ARE POSTED                July 27, 2011

The records for this year are also posted with NEW, BUMP, and FINAL to the listings so you can better follow the record progression.

LTA Hits 10,000 Hits!!!                                                      November 28, 2010

That right. I know it's hard to believe that with 125 racers in 2010 we would be getting this many visitors; but it's true!  Just over 6 weeks after launching the new website we just crossed the 10,000 visitors mark.  It is great to see this much interest and we hope to see all of you at the 2011 Maine Event.

We at the LTA would like to thank HOT ROD for attending the 2010 Maine Event and for the wonderful article they presented.  We were even lucky enough to receive a mention on the cover. We hope to see them again next year. So, head out to your local news stand and pick up your copy today!

New For 2011 - The GO-PASS!!!                                         October 5, 2010

As racers, most of us would prefer to . . . well . . . race.

But, running an event takes a lot of help.  So for 2011, we will be offering a new program called the Go-Pass.  If you volunteer as a racer, you will be given passes to get you to the head of the line when you do race. The details are still being worked out, but it will be worth your while.

Suggestions are welcome.
